Engine oil

Are you an electric vehicle owner? If you have an EV in your garage, does it require a Nissan oil change at regular intervals? Learn about the type of maintenance work required for EVs and whether this includes routine oil changes and the occasional oil flush.

Electric Cars and Oil Changes

Electric vehicles do not require oil changes. This is one of the huge advantages of an EV. This is because electric automobiles run on a battery paired with an electric motor and not a combustible engine. The latter requires oil to lubricate the multiple moving parts.

Aside from never needing oil changes, EVs also never require an oil filter change, since there’s no oil to filter.

Other Fluids

Of course, there are other types of fluids besides motor oil. One example is brake fluid, which requires a replacement every one to two years. Most EVs also contain coolant circuits, which keep the battery and charger from overheating, so you may need an occasional coolant flush to maintain your battery.

Maintenance Requirements

As you can see, EVs require less care, but this doesn’t equate to being maintenance-free. A tune-up for an EV generally includes an examination of the tires, brakes, and suspension. These components are more or less the same as that of a gasoline-powered vehicle and require similar maintenance.
