Nissan Leaf

If you’re one of the many people searching for an eco-friendly vehicle (and also one that will help save you money on fuel), the new Nissan Leaf is ideal. Get to know this electric vehicle, which starts at an affordable $27,400 MSRP.

Power and Performance

The base Nissan Leaf comes with an electric motor and a 40-kWh lithium-ion battery that combine to put out 147 horsepower. The other option is equipped with two electric motors and a 62-kWh lithium-ion battery that produces 214 horsepower. A one-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard. This new Nissan car has great maneuverability, and its regenerative braking system works very smoothly.

MPGe, Driving Range, and Charging Time

The Nissan Leaf gets 111 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) combined city/highway, which is a very good number for the class. With the smaller battery, it can go up to 149 miles on a full charge. The bigger battery increases that to 226 miles. Using a 240-volt outlet, you can get your Nissan hatchback completely charged in 7.5 hours. With DC fast charging, you can get up to an 80-percent charge in 40 minutes.

Interior

The two-row Nissan Leaf has room for up to five people. Manually adjustable front seats and cloth upholstery come standard. You can upgrade to get an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, leather upholstery, and heated front seats. For the electric car class, the Nissan Leaf has outstanding cargo room: 23.6 cubic feet behind the back row and 30 cubic feet when it’s folded. As for tech, every model has:

  • Eight-inch touchscreen interface
  • Android Auto™
  • Apple CarPlay®
  • Bluetooth®
  • 4 USB ports
  • A four-speaker stereo
  • Satellite radio
  • Voice recognition
  • Proximity keyless entry
  • Push-button start

A navigation system and a seven-speaker Bose® premium stereo can be added.
