Vehicle Fluids Guide

As Nissan auto dealers, keeping your vehicle in top shape is really important to us. The last thing we want to happen is for something to go wrong, break, or leak from your vehicle. However, if or when that does happen, we want you to be well-prepared.

If you don’t know much about common car fluids, this quick rundown should help!

• Oil is the fluid that keeps your engine lubricated. It’s thick and brown in color, and it needs to be routinely changed every three months or so.
• Brake fluid is a clear to brown liquid that is slick. It keeps your brakes functioning properly and safely.
• Antifreeze/coolant/radiator fluid is one of the most important. It’s usually green or orange, and it must only be checked when the car is turned off and cooled down.
• Transmission fluid is a thin, reddish fluid that lubricates your transmission and improves the overall efficiency of your vehicle. Lack of fluid is represented by gear slippage or delayed in shifting.
• Power steering fluid is a similar reddish or brown colored fluid, but it is located toward the front of the car where transmission fluid would come from under the engine.
• Washer fluid is typically blue. It’s not needed for your car to run, but it increases safety as it helps keep the windshield clear.
